Kadoo vs Khan Academy Kids for children learning English (2026)

Khan Academy Kids is a free, nonprofit early-learning app for ages 2 to 8: reading, math, social-emotional skills and more, in English, for children getting ready for school. Kadoo is for a different starting point: children aged 4 to 8 who don't speak English yet, learning their first English words with help for parents in their own language. We make Kadoo; every fact about Khan Academy Kids below has its source.

Where Khan Academy Kids is stronger

  • Free, completely. No subscriptions and no ads, from a nonprofit.
  • Broad school readiness. Reading, writing, math and social-emotional skills follow a personal learning path, with a library of books and tools for teachers.
  • Highly rated. Common Sense Media gave it five stars: "Books, videos, songs, and games are high quality and make creative use of the touchscreen format" (Common Sense Media).

Where Kadoo is different

  • For children who don't speak English yet. Khan Academy Kids is in English and teaches school subjects in English. Kadoo starts from zero English: help comes without words, and grown-ups get help in English, French, German, Italian, Spanish, Russian, Chinese or Portuguese (Brazil).
  • Focused on English vocabulary. Places open in order of how early children usually learn their words, and words come back on later days.
  • No account, no data. Nothing to set up, an App Store privacy label of Data Not Collected, and the whole app works offline.
  • Not free for everything. The house, a song, the alphabet and the photo album are free with no time limit; the rest of the town needs a subscription.

Which one to choose

If your child speaks English, Khan Academy Kids is an excellent free choice for getting ready for school.

If your child is just starting English at home in another language, Kadoo is made for that first step. The two can work together: first words with Kadoo, and school-readiness activities in English once your child understands more.
