Kadoo is a calm English learning game for iPhone and iPad in which children aged 4 to 8 learn their first English words by exploring a painted town, even before they can read.
Kadoo in one paragraph
Kadoo is an English learning game for children aged 4 to 8 who are learning English as a new language. Children explore a town of 11 places and 43 rooms, from their own home to a hospital, a school, the coast and a trip to London, Paris, Tokyo and Moscow, and find nearly 1,000 everyday things by their English names. A child who can't read is shown what to do without words: an Explorer says each word, a puppy leads the way to the thing, and a little hand shows the tap. Kadoo has no ads, no accounts and collects no data, works offline, and lets parents choose how long their child plays. It is free to download, with the house free to play, and a subscription opens the whole town.

What's different about Kadoo
- No reading, no instructions. Kadoo is built for children who can't read and don't yet understand English. Three wordless guides show them where, when and how: the Explorer says the word, the puppy shows where the thing is, and a hand shows what to do. Help comes on its own after a few seconds of waiting.
- Words in the order children learn them. The places open one at a time, ordered by the age at which words are usually learned (the age-of-acquisition ratings of Kuperman, Stadthagen-Gonzalez and Brysbaert, 2012), so a child meets "bed" and "cup" long before "satellite".
- Words that come back. Every word found goes into the child's Backpack and comes back on later days, mixed with new ones.
- Made for children, not for data. No ads, no accounts, no analytics and no data collected. Purchases sit behind a grown-ups' question in the parents' area.
