Where Lingokids is stronger
- Breadth. Lingokids covers far more than English words: early reading, math, science, social-emotional learning and physical activity, with licensed characters and content partners.
- More languages and devices. Its interface comes in 17 languages, and it runs on Android and Amazon Fire as well as Apple devices.
- A long track record. Hundreds of thousands of ratings, an Apple Editors' Choice badge, and a free tier with ten games a day.
Common Sense Media found its videos "nicely produced" and appealing to young kids, while noting "a seemingly endless amount of content but no guidance to help kids navigate the massive menu" (Common Sense Media).
Where Kadoo is different
- Made for children who don't speak English at home. Kadoo starts from zero English. Help comes without words: the Explorer says the word again, a puppy shows where the thing is, and a little hand shows the tap. Grown-ups get help in English, French, German, Italian, Spanish, Russian, Chinese or Portuguese (Brazil).
- One guided path. The places open one at a time, in order of how early children usually learn their words, and found words come back on later days, rather than a large library to pick from.
- Nothing to sign up for, nothing collected. No account, no analytics, and an App Store privacy label of Data Not Collected. Everything works offline.
- Narrower on purpose. Kadoo teaches words, letters, numbers and songs in English. It doesn't teach math, science or reading comprehension, and it doesn't use the microphone, so it can't check pronunciation.
Which one to choose
If your child already speaks some English, or you want one app for general early learning in English, Lingokids covers more ground.
If your child is just starting English, your family speaks another language at home, and you want a calm, guided path with no account and no data collected, Kadoo is built for that. Its house is free with no time limit, so you can try it before deciding.
