Home is where every child starts in Kadoo, and it stays free to play. Its four rooms hold the words a child meets first in any language: their bed, their toothbrush, their breakfast and their toys.
Kadoo opens its places in order of how early children usually learn their words, measured with the age-of-acquisition ratings of Kuperman, Stadthagen-Gonzalez and Brysbaert (2012), in which adults estimated the age at which they learned 30,000 English words.
Bedroom
In the bedroom, the Explorer asks for a thing and the child finds it in the picture. 51 words:

In the bathroom, the child hands the Explorer the thing she needs, and she uses it. 50 words:

Practice them at home
- Name things as you use them, in English, once a day: "cup" as you pour, "towel" after the bath. One word is enough; a whole sentence isn't needed.
- Play "bring me": ask for one thing from the list and let your child fetch it. Swap roles so they ask you.
- Put a few flashcards on the real things (the fridge, the bed, the sofa) for a week, then take them down and see what your child remembers.
Learn them in Kadoo
In Kadoo, an Explorer says each word, a puppy shows where the thing is and a little hand shows how to tap, drag or color, so children who can't read yet can play on their own. Words they find go into their Backpack and come back on later days, mixed with new ones. Home is free to play. Kadoo on the App Store.
